Lester Brown

Founder and President, Earth Policy Institute

Lester Brown is an agricultural economist and the founder and president of the Earth Policy Institute. He also founded the Worldwatch Institute, the first research institute devoted to the analysis of global environmental issues, and launched its “State of the World” reports. A former advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture on foreign agricultural policy, he pioneered the concept of sustainable development and also helped to establish the Overseas Development Council. In 1986, he was named a MacArthur Fellow. His many books include Man, Land, and Food, World without Borders, Building a Sustainable Society, and, most recently, Plan B 3.0: Mobilizing to Save Civilization.
