Mohamed El-Ashry is a senior fellow at the United Nations Foundation and former chairman and CEO of the Global Environment Facility. Previously, he was chief environmental adviser to the president of the World Bank and director of the World Bank’s environment department. He has also served as senior vice president of the World Resources Institute, director of environmental quality for the Tennessee Valley Authority, senior environmental adviser to the UN Development Program, and special adviser to the secretary general of the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development.
