James Balog

Founder and Director, Extreme Ice Survey

James Balog is an internationally acclaimed nature and science photographer whose images have been exhibited in museums and galleries from Greece and Paris to New York and Los Angeles. He is the author of six monographs, including Tree: A New Vision of the American Forest and Survivors: A New Vision of Endangered Wildlife. His pictures appear regularly in The New Yorker, Life, American Photo, Vanity Fair, Sierra, Audubon, and Outside. He is also a contributing editor to National Geographic Adventure. The June 2007 cover of National Geographic showcased his work on melting glaciers, a project that led him to organize the Extreme Ice Survey documenting fast-changing glaciers around the world.
