Chris Johns is the editor in chief of National Geographic and a photographer whose magazine assignments have taken him all over the globe. Previously, he was a staff photographer for the Topeka Capital-Journal, picture editor and special projects photographer at the Seattle Times, and a freelance photographer for Life, Time, and National Geographic, where he has also served as senior editor for illustrations and associate editor. Known for his defining images and documentation of Africa and its endangered wildlife, his critically acclaimed books include Valley of Life: Africa's Great Rift, Hawaii's Hidden Treasures, and Wild at Heart: Man and Beast in Southern Africa.
